Artificial intelligence (AI) in HRM

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. 


The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into human resources (HR) procedures will improve firms since these applications can evaluate, anticipate, and diagnose to assist HR professionals in making better decisions.

Pros and Cons of AI for HR Departments

1.     Employee Hiring

Pros - Artificial Intelligence can seamlessly sort out, screen, and delegate qualified candidates to appropriate roles within the organization.

Cons - may not be able to weigh and implement important variables such as company culture and similar company values during decision making.

 

2.     Employee-Engagement

Pros: the process of employee engagement can be automated through Artificial Intelligence. The system can perform intelligent surveys and gather feedback in real-time. AI can also perform Personalized Internal Communication directly with employees as a replacement for of the traditional issuing of survey sheets.

Cons: there may still be a need for human interaction as the system may not completely exhaust all the challenges faced by each individual.

 

3.     Learning and Staff Development

Pros – through eLearning, Artificial Intelligence can be used to educate staff rapidly and effectively. The system can also monitor and evaluate each employee's performance to ensure that no employee is declining in the learning process so that the team completes each phase together and on time.

Cons – this process may further dwindle human connection, which is vital for staff, especially if they're working as a team.

 

4.     Automated FAQs

Pros: Artificial Intelligence can be automated to attend to frequently asked questions, thereby saving a lot of time. Chatbots and virtual assistants are the most popular solutions for cases of this nature. They help leverage time and can be depended upon to answer all the time accurately.

Cons: it has become well known that chatbots can easily get hacked. This ultimately compromises the security of any sensitive information given by an employee, and can also become an avenue for unforeseen cyber-attacks.

 

5.     Human Capital Management

Pros – Artificial Intelligence through Automated Employee Surveys can assist Human Resource departments in ascertaining how well each staff is doing based on their performance in an individual set of tasks that define their roles in the company. This can be achieved through automated performance analysis. This will help to direct employee's career paths and optimize the working force in the company.

Cons – the system can get hacked and risk losing sensitive data.

 

Conclusion

There are several practical applications of Artificial Intelligence with respect to Human Resource Management.The automation, operational analysis, and predictive analysis provided by AI techniques can definitely help to increase productivity and performance of HR function, and contribute to enhancing its role as a strategic partner in an organization in this digital world.

    1. Thank you for your interest on AI in HR. Here I discussed only about the AI applications in HR and its Pros and Cons only. Apart from that it also has some disadvantages that we can’t ignore Like,
      1. High cost of implementation
      2. Cannot replace the human intelligence - unable to bond with human beings which is a critical attribute needed to manage a team of humans.
      3. Doesn’t improve with the experience - whenever there is some change in the input, the AIs need to be re-assessed, re-trained and re-build.
      4. Lak of Creativity - creativity is limited to the creative ability of the person who programs and commands
      5. Risk of unemployment - likely to take over the majority of the repetitive tasks, which are largely binary in nature and involve minimum subjectivity

  7. Good blog on Artificial intelligence in HR. I think Machines performs better than human being but can't replace humans in Human resources management. And AI doesn't improve with experience and lacks creativity.

    1. True, because human resource managers are listed as one of the jobs least likely to be replaced by automation in the future per MSN. Jobs that involve managing others are also less likely to be automated in the future.
